Tickets, buy-ins and the difference
A gala evening sells tickets. A tournament takes a buy-in at the cage. They are not the same thing, they are not sold in the same place, and mixing them up is the most common reason people turn up on the wrong night.

How each kind is sold
i.
Gala evenings — ticketed
Sold ahead, often through a ticketing service, and they do sell out. The ticket covers entry and whatever the venue has attached to it: dinner, a drink on arrival, a set period of table play.
ii.
Tournaments — buy-in
You register with the venue and pay the buy-in there, usually on the day or in the days before. No ticketing service is involved, and a seat cap applies.
iii.
Charity table nights — either
Run by a club or society at a venue, so they can go through any channel. Eventfinda carries most of them; some sell only through the organisation itself.
iv.
Private rooms — quoted
Not sold as tickets at all. The venue's events team quotes on the room, the hours and the table count.
